Organizational Development

What is Organizational Development?

Organizations are collections of people focused on a common purpose.  To the extent there is misalignment between personal objectives and those of the organization, development may be needed.  The focus of Organizational Development (OD) is to increase an organization’s ability to motivate, inspire and improve the performance of its people, through a variety of interventions. Individuals, teams and/or departments can be the focus of an OD intervention, depending on the need. OD is committed to helping leaders build a thriving organization that fulfills its mission without compromising core values.

The Approach

The approach begins by establishing a partnership. We partner with leaders/clients to identity their unique needs and jointly draft an initial plan; a proposal is then created by OD and sent for review until final joint approval is reached.

We consult with leaders to evaluate current strategies and challenges within their department.  We then provide recommendations based on the organization’s unique needs, which may include coaching, customized training and/or referrals to other resources within Emory Human Resources. Our goal is to maximize efficiency by utilizing the skills and talents already present within the organization whenever possible. On occasion we may recommend external resources.

We use techniques that are data driven but sensitive to time constraints and goals. Data is collected through a variety of means: assessments, meetings, interviews, focus groups, surveys, observations, and other methods. These methods help us gather the appropriate information to yield solutions for the organization’s unique needs.  Group based interventions are often used (when appropriate) to maximize participation and acceptance.
