Talent and Team Development

Development of talent is an ongoing process.  We partner with managers and teams to identify and minimize performance gaps in order to achieve expected business and organizational results. This includes developing specific services that assist with the management of talent throughout the lifecycle at Emory post-recruitment.

Audience and costs (where appropriate) associated with each depend on the nature and scope of the project.  A proposal is offered after initial consultation for each request.

Retreat Planning and Facilitation - A retreat is a meeting that is typically designed and organized specifically to facilitate the ability of a group to step back from their day-to-day demands and focus on strategic, team building, and related matters.  We partner with managers and teams in focusing their efforts to optimize expected objectives and results through designing, facilitating and evaluating expected outcomes for the retreat. Retreat deliverables include design and facilitation, summary documents and follow-up meetings.

Talent Management - Helping managers assess their department's workforce so that the right people are in the right roles with the right set of skills at the right time is important for planning strategies and professional development.  This includes succession planning for leadership positions, using the 9-box method for identifying and developing high-potentials.

Performance Management Systems Support - The support provided by OD for the performance management system includes the use, understanding and application of the Emory competencies, general best practices in Performance Management, and the associated PeopleSoft tools for evaluating employee performance.  OD also provides online and classroom training for leaders and employees that enhances expectations and communication throughout the 12-month performance management cycle.

Team Building - To be an effective team, its members must share a common goal, have mutual respect, and be motivated to use the strengths of each member to achieve their objectives.  Successful teams develop effective group skills, using tools that promote effective interpersonal communication. Experiential activities may include teamwork, communication, conflict management--just to name a few.  Team building sessions can range from one hour to a full day; part of staff meetings or scheduled as an all-day retreat.

Special Requests for Intact Team Course Delivery
In addition to the general enrollment courses, Learning & Organizational Development can also provide courses for specific groups, such as to an intact team.  Delivery may include the delivery of a single course to a series of courses to a customized program, depending on the need of the department/division/school. For special requests, courses can be delivered in the 1599 Clifton Road building or at the department’s location (provided suitable space is available). For special requests, contact Wanda J. Hayes, PhD, Senior Director, Learning & Organizational Development, wanda.hayes@emory.edu
